Plate Gretsch Micro
Gretsch is world famous for making some of the best-sounding
drums. They were an integral part of the sound of jazz during
the 1940s-1970s. While Gretsch made some great snare drums,
the Microsensitive strainer was certainly a weak spot.
Problem:
The Gretsch Microsensitive strainer worked well when new. Over
time, the Microsensitive’s factory grease wears away,
making normal operation of the strainer very difficult. This
leads to difficult operation and metal fatigue, which most of
the time leads to a broken throw-off lever. The Microsensitive
can also be tricky to adjust due to the lack of range provided
by the snare wire tension knob. Also, Microsensitives are famous
for loosening and not holding snare wire tension as you play.
The lever can even work itself to the snares-off position while
you play the drum. Countless malfunctioning Microsensitive strainers
have been yanked off, only to have the owner hastily drill extra
holes in a perfectly good drum shell for a better replacement
strainer. Consider the Presto Plate as a much cheaper alternative
to buying an expensive replacement Microsensitive strainer,
if you can even find one. Inevitably a replacement Microsensitive
will also break under heavy use.
